JCS Technology Showcase

The Technology Showcase is an opportunity for students and instructors to demonstrate curriculum-based technology projects developed by students across the district.  Our parents, teachers, administrators, legislators, community, and higher education representatives will be able to interact with student-created products and tools to discover how instructional technology impacts learning.
We will have door prizes for teachers that attend this event which includes a chance to win a set of 5 Chromebooks for their class! Mr. Nixon's Pirate-TV class will be representing CHHS this year. We hope you will be able to join us.


Google Chrome Browser

Chrome is updating from version 26 to version 29 on all AD workstations around the county. The upgrade uninstalls the current version and then installs the new version after a restart. So, what does that mean? Well, if you are working in Chrome and it unexpectedly shuts down. It's okay. Restart and it will be ready for use.

Create and Locate Standards-Aligned Video Playlists on OpenEd
OpenEd is a new site that claims to be the world's largest educational resource catalog. On OpenEd you can search for videos, games, and other educational materials. Your searches can be conducted according to content area, grade level, Common Core standard, or a combination of those factors. You can also search according to keyword although when I tried the keyword search option it didn't work well.

As a registered OpenEd user (registration is free and takes less than thirty seconds to complete) you can create courses and playlists of videos and other materials that you find in the OpenEd directory. You can align your courses and playlists to standards. If you choose to align your course to a standard, OpenEd will suggest materials to you.


Applications for Education
The biggest benefit of OpenEd seems to be found in the search tools. Rather than searching and hoping to find a video on YouTube that matches the standard(s) you're addressing in a lesson, you can start with the standard and have OpenEd locate videos for you.

Insert Images into your Quizzes using Google Quizzes aka Forms

You can now add images to your answer choices in Google Forms. Doing that allows you to have students select an image as the response to a question. You can also combine images and text in your Google Forms answer choices.
